Therabody SleepMask Review: A small ritual that changed my nights.

Last year, I began prioritizing sleep because I struggled to quiet my mind at bedtime.

Even when my body is tired, and the house is quiet, my mind stays wide awake.

Replaying conversations, planning tomorrow, and adding things to my "to-do" list kept me awake. Noticing my struggle, my husband surprised me with the Therabody SleepMask for Christmas. Initially, I said, "Thank you, babe, but I don't need it." He encouraged me to give it a try and promised we could return it if I didn’t like it.

Let me tell you, it has become my favorite nighttime ritual.

First Impressions:

The mask's quality stands out: it’s structured, cushioned, comfortable, and truly blocks out all light.

It fully blocks light—essential in a busy household where lights might come on unexpectedly at night.

When you turn on the vibrating feature, it does not feel intense or distracting. It’s subtle and rhythmic. It’s like a steady hum that gives your nervous system something predictable to focus on. And it feels calming.

The Vibrating Feature - The differentiator

This feature sets it apart from other masks.

Instead of staring at the ceiling and trying to “force” myself to sleep, I focus on the vibration pattern. It becomes something that my brain latches onto like white noise, but physical. It quiets my mind.

I noticed:

  • My brain relaxes.

  • The tension around my eyes softens.

  • As a result, my thoughts slow down faster.

It’s like the mask gives my brain the signal - “We’re done for the day.”

As someone who is actively trying to be less overstimulated, the mask has been very helpful.

How does it fit into my routine?

Putting on the mask and my nightly routine now feel intentional.

  • I plug my phone into the charger across the room.

  • I switch on the fan.

  • Get into bed, maybe read a bit.

  • Sometimes, if I am REALLY struggling, I turn on CALM on my headphones.

  • If I do not wear my headphones, I turn on the hatch.

  • Then put on the mask, and that’s the moment I feel like my day is done.

We sometimes underestimate the power of small rituals. This is not just a sleep accessory; it truly helps me unwind and slow my thoughts.

Comfort and Wearability

The mask is built very well! You can adjust it so that it’s not too tight, yet feels secure enough. After several months of use, the strap has held up without any fraying or stretching, and the battery still charges fully and lasts through the night. For me, there’s been no noticeable decline in comfort or functionality, which gives me confidence in its durability.

Because the mask is adjustable, it does not press uncomfortably on my eyes. It can still blink naturally because it has a dip where you place your eyes. It’s something I appreciate.

The only thing is that you have to remember to charge it because it does need charging. It’s not a big deal for me, but it can be for others because it’s another thing to manage or charge. One thing that makes this easier is keeping the charging cable right next to my phone charger and plugging both in before bed—turning it into part of my wind-down ritual. Pairing the mask charging with something you already do, like charging your phone, makes it much more automatic and less likely to be forgotten.

Who can this benefit?

  • Someone whose brain is constantly “on.”

  • Anyone who appreciates sleep and takes it seriously.

  • Some are trying to be more intentional.

  • People are sensitive to light.

If you’re already sleeping well and getting good rest, you probably don't need it. However, if falling asleep feels like a negotiation with your own mind, then this could help.

Is it worth it?

  • For me, it certainly is.

  • Not because it’s trendy or a new product.

  • Not because it’s high tech But because it supports my lifestyle, reduces the daily noise, and significantly improves my sleep.

It does not replace good habits, but it supports them, and sometimes support is what we are looking for.

Before I wrap up, I wanted to share a bit about my first week with the mask. Honestly, I was skeptical at first and half-expected it would end up collecting dust in my nightstand. But after the first night, I realized I kept reaching for it as part of my wind-down. In the first few days, I had to get used to the gentle vibration near my temples. By night three, it felt natural, and I actually started looking forward to it. I was surprised by how quickly my bedtime routine changed. Just knowing I had a reliable tool to help me quiet down made nighttime less stressful. Now, I can't imagine my nights without it.
